10 Tips on Setting up your New Baby’s Nursery.

Every new mother wants a beautifully decorated custom nursery for her newborn to come home to. Decorating a nursery for your new baby is fun but it can also be stressful. Follow these 10 tips to help you get started!
1. Set up a crib. Make sure the crib meets safety standards - bars should not be wider than 2 3/8 inches apart and there should be no gaps between the mattress and the frame. Look for a crib with rails that you can lower, so you can pick up the baby easily.
2. Get a mattress and linens for the crib. Make sure the mattress is firm and fits the crib snugly.
3. Consider purchasing a bassinet for newborns, who often like the cozy fit. A cradle or bassinet is also nice for keeping in your room the first month or so.
4. Set up a changing table with a pad cover. Make sure the changing table has a safety belt and a guardrail to protect your baby. Purchase a couple of waterproof pads to place on top of the changing pad for easy clean up of accidents. This way you don’t have to wash the entire changing table cover.
5. Stock the changing table with clean diapers, wipes, baby powder and baby creams within easy reach. Keep a lidded garbage can and a laundry hamper close to the changing table for easy access.
6. Include a soft night-light or dim lamp in the nursery. Bright lights can leave baby wide-awake after midnight feedings and changing’s.
7. Hang a mobile over the crib to keep baby stimulated. Think about purchasing a cd player to play soothing music at naptime or bed time.
8. Decorate the nursery with favorite photos, quilts, stuffed animals (outside of the crib) and special family mementos. Adding baby’s name to a wall with cuttout letters is also a cute personalized touch!
9. Stock up on baby hangers for baby clothes. You will be amazed at how many clothes your baby will have. You can also purchase sized dividers. Many of the clothes you will receive will be for future use. This way you can divide them easily.
10. Consider a glider as a worthwhile investment for the nursery. A glider is safer than a rocking chair because it doesn’t have runners, which can pose a hazard to youngsters once they begin to crawl. Even after baby outgrows the nursery, a glider will be useful for bedtime readings.

Traveling with Your New Baby

Your travel life doesn’t have to come to a halt just because you’ve become a parent. But the reality is much of your trip will be spent soothing and entertaining your baby. So much for a quiet, relaxing trip! (That is unless baby is sleeping…)
But while travel will never be the same, it has its upside as well. With thought out planning, traveling with baby can be a joyful experience. Who knows you just might rediscover the world from a child’s’ eyes!
Here are some strategies for making travel with your baby a success.
Where to go
This is almost the most important. No matter how much planning you do a romantic trip to Paris with a baby or young child won’t be any fun! So plan short trips, that you can easily accommodate the needs of your baby. Be realistic about what you can do and where you can go.
What to bring
A few days before your trip carry a notepad around with you and take notes of all the things you use and need for your baby in a regular day. Then packing will be easier the day of. Also think thru the what-if’s, like medicine or first aid. Be sure to bring plenty of things to keep baby entertained and feeling secure, any favorite blankets or toys. (Travel blankets like the ones in our store are perfect!)
Create a home away from home
Once you get to your destination try to keep babies schedule as normal as possible. Somewhat follow the same routine as baby is used to at home.
The most important thing is to keep calm and relaxed. Your baby can sense your frustrations and anxiety. If you are laid back and calm, your baby will most likely be as well.

My sister in law just had a baby shower for her 4th child to be born, a sweet baby girl! This is her fourth daughter, so she has seen her share of cute baby gear, cool gadgets and everything that comes with the birth of a child!
I sent her one of our new satin and minky blankets. On it was the name of her newest edition! She didn’t know she was going to receive anything from me since I wasn’t able to make it to her shower. So this gift came as a surprise!
When I got home that night she called me at around 10:00 pm (which is very late for a pregnant girl) and gushed over how cute the blanket was! How she loved the personalized cake box it came in and the matching diaper bag tag. She said it was the best gift she received at her shower. All the ladies passed it around and cuddled with it, saying it was so nice!
I was please that she loved it! Then she said, but there is only one problem with your gift. I was like oh no…. what???? She said she didn’t know how she was going to keep it away from her three year old who instantly latched on to it! I laughed and said, “well… I’ll see what we can do about that!”
